Hi, my name is Koa and I work for Beach Street Skincare in Bali – Indonesia.
What did I do? I’m in charge of aligning the company’s image with its mission and vision, company values, and also the personal motivations of the people who work there.
Considering our product characteristics, environmental motivation, and why not? our vision and business strategy; I supported the structuring of communication channels for our corporate sustainability plan, the planning and development of our conservation and education programs, and as you can see, the corporate blog. I love it, and it’s nothing more than what my colleagues do, we all do things too. Here we are all rowing together and with the same strength to achieve the same goal. Personal improvement and brand success.
In this publication, I wanted to do something different. Not necessarily informative or educational but maybe, when I’m successful, it might inspire. Today I woke up feeling the need to communicate and express myself; and when you feel that, then this is the right thing to do. There is no need to hesitate.
Background is not a barrier! So how did it start?
I am 38 years old. I studied law at the University of Lima – Peru, and dedicated myself to environmental law, specializing in biosphere conservation and climate change. Then I completed a master’s degree in environmental science in Barcelona – Spain and I also got a specialization in corporate sustainability – CSR, in San José – Costa Rica.
During my last years of practicing law, I worked as a political advisor at the Congress of the Republic of Peru and after that for the Ministry of Environment from Peru as well, a great experience that gave me a lot of knowledge. But even though it sounds amazing or successful, I never felt like it.
I have always felt that I am an enthusiastic person; my dreams are aimed at doing fun things that, in addition to making me happy, help people feel the same and protect the environment. Based on this idea, I work with various NGOs on amazing programs, always aligned with my motivation. But back to my days, as you will understand, a lawyer doesn’t usually lead an adventurous life, right? usually focus more on the corporate world, so despite dedicating myself to the environment, my job involves sitting behind a computer and writing regulations all day every day. I didn’t feel happy at all, maybe satisfied with the salary, but… One day, from one moment to another I decided to quit, sell everything I had and get out of my comfort zone. Permanently. I just want to find myself while exploring the world. I was scared but decided.
Over the past few years, I experienced countless adventures, I became a professional climber and fire performer, I got to know 5 continents basing my travels on simplicity and joy. Without any plan, just a backpack and determination.
During this time I’ve learned that when you’re genuine, authentic, a good person, and happy, people notice it in your energy. An authentic and permanent smile is the key to personal success and will always attract good things that are sometimes inexplicable, but they just happen; eventually.
How about Beach-Street Skincare?
In my travels and experiences, I ended up flying to Bali – Indonesia, where I met Ams, who is now our leader, and CEO of Beach Street. At the time, the company didn’t even have a plan yet; the only progress we made was a simple conversation about how to help the local community in terms of the environment; we talked about topics such as development, conservation, education, travel, and a few other ideas, all this in a small live music event at a café. Anyway; since it was just an idea, I had to proceed with my plan, so a few days later I boarded a plane to Australia to study project management.
A year later I got a surprise call from Ams; he invited me to join the Beach Street team and work together in Bali on those projects but as a natural brand dealing with sunscreen products. On that note, Ams has a cool style and besides her love for the sea, she knows a lot about natural skin and body care products, so it makes sense. Ams was interested in my previous knowledge and that is why he invited me to join the Beach Street project, he believed in me and gave me the opportunity to use everything I learned both in my life and professional career, but in a different way, with heart and having fun. I didn’t think twice and accepted, so after the lockdown was over, I boarded the first plane.
Here I have the wings to fly as high as I can, and the confidence to know that anything is possible. We have the same dream and we are ready to make it happen. With humility, ethics, responsibility, authenticity, and a lot of compassion. Little by little, we want to make a difference.
Scattered ideas and the birth of a dream
As I mentioned earlier, Beach Street was born out of the idea of providing aid and raising awareness, but with time, creativity, and vision, it took a different shape until it became what it is today, a beautiful and friendly array of natural beauty. products, which in addition to delivering quality, are also responsible for protecting the environment and inspiring society.
What do we have and what do you offer?
In addition to our shared love of Bali and its unique lifestyle, culture, religion, stunning waves, and the beauty of the coral reefs and mangroves that surround it, we have extensive knowledge of the environmental issues that threaten it and the reasons that cause them. this happened, and this is how Beach-Street was born.
A lesson for life
Having a goal is always good, and striving for it feels even better. However, nowadays I think that instead of having a specific goal, it is better to have an idea, not a unique idea, but a global picture of happiness and success; there is no one way to do things, our behavior will attract them so we should focus on doing what makes us happy every day, our energy and positivity will make it real. It may take longer, but we’ll have fun.
Success does not always bring happiness. My career was thriving, but I never felt fully happy until I decided to step out of my comfort zone and make a change.
I’m not saying that the other way is bad, it is, but I prefer this way.
My relationship with Beach-Street
Beach-Street offered me the idea of a business with strong values, kindness and motivation. Since working with them, I have been able to continue my dream of helping others with my knowledge, using my creativity to develop projects and create styles by using the skills I learned during my previous experiences.
How nice it is to feel important to the company you work for, and to the people you work with. And how amazing it is to be able to do all this feeling free.
Today I have a wonderful opportunity that although grueling and difficult will be achieved at any cost. With teamwork, leadership, ethics and enthusiasm. There are many things we have to do.
Responsible Products
I’ve been writing about personal themes and motivations, but what about the products we offer?
In addition to local development, education and conservation projects, we offer high-quality natural hair and skincare products. Over time, I began to recognize and understand the importance of this to society, especially when we consider the negative impacts of climate change.
At Beach-Street, we understand the importance of living a healthy, balanced and conscious lifestyle, but we understand that we also have special needs. Take this into consideration, and understand that natural is always better. We are living in a new era where environmental awareness and sustainable resource utilization are a priority. We always keep this in mind and this is why our products are completely natural-based; their production does not involve any animal cruelty, they are vegan, and of course, they do not do any damage to the beautiful coral reefs like some other brands. In addition to all this, we have developed a type of packaging that replaces plastic with sugarcane, ensuring biodegradable compounds benefit our planet. We wanted to offer conscious products and make an organic impact on the island where our brand was born. It is our way of giving in return and being thankful for the life we have to live.
We want to bring about real change. That is our commitment. Would you like to join?
